Ultrafiltration is a water treatment process that uses a hollow fiber or a sheet membrane to mechanically filter water containing very small particulate. An ultrafiltration drinking water system uses this super fine membrane technology to filter particulate down to 0.025 microns. To help you get an idea just how small that is, the diameter of a human hair is typically about 75-80 microns. This means that an ultrafiltration system works on a micro level, literally taking all suspended solids out of the water.

A Sand Media and Carbon Filter Treatment Plant is a wastewater treatment process that uses both sand and carbon filters to remove impurities and contaminants from water. Sand filters remove suspended solids and particles, while carbon filters absorb organic pollutants, chlorine, and other impurities. These filters are often used in effluent treatment plants (ETPs) to treat industrial wastewater before reuse or disposal. Sand Filter:
  • Function: Primarily removes suspended solids, dirt particles, and other larger contaminants from water.
  • Mechanism: Water flows through a bed of sand, and the particles are trapped within the sand's pores or on its surface.
  • Applications: Often used as a pre-treatment step before other treatment processes.
Carbon Filter:
  • Function:Removes organic compounds, chlorine, taste, odor, and other dissolved contaminants from water.
  • Mechanism:Activated carbon has a large surface area that allows it to adsorb (stick to) dissolved pollutants.
  • Applications:Used to remove residual contaminants after other treatment processes like sand filtration.
  • Combined Sand and Carbon Filter:
    • Mechanism:Water flows through a carbon layer, then a sand layer, removing a wide range of contaminants.
    • Benefits:Effective for treating various types of wastewater, including industrial effluents.
    • Applications:Commonly used in ETPs to ensure water meets quality standards for reuse or discharge.
